Despite pipe networks being in operation for hundreds of years much of the thinking in relation to how they should be managed and optimised has only occurred in recent times and continues to evolve. In part this can be aligned with the availability of computing power, (to manage large volumes of data, run algorithms and utilise Artificial Intelligence) and new technologies that provide information that could not previously be detected or accurately measured. New materials, construction and repair methodologies and devices for controlling and sensing pressures, flows, transients, etc. are also constantly evolving and this adds further complexity.
Converting these new capabilities into strategies and projects that deliver logical, practical and valuable paths to improvement in service and value enhancement is an ongoing challenge for asset owners and the consultants, contractors and suppliers that support them.
Within this environment there is potential for disputes to arise between parties or the simple need for ‘a second opinion’. Assetlife Alliance has extensive experience across many of these aspects and can provide an independent assessment and advice. Where appropriate this will be conducted in accordance with the professional conduct rules that apply to the parties concerned and if ‘Expert Evidence’ is required this can be included.
